LWIC Roof Deck Retrofit System Process

Retrofitting Lightweight Insulating Concrete (LWIC) roof decks is required when the LWIC loses its bond with the zinc finish on the galvanized steel form sections, and/or the LWIC cracks and breaks up, rupturing the roof covering. To correct these problems the removal of the existing roof cover and the LWIC is required.

Fortunately, Loadmaster uses the same galvanized steel form sections and, after removal of the LWIC, additional steel form anchorage is usually required to meet current IBC requirements.

Broken up unbonded LWIC is loaded on wagons, transported to the edge of the building and dropped over the side. Once all pieces are removed, Loadmaster installation over existing steel sections to begin.

All LWIC has been removed. Required additional screw anchorage for steel sections is installed to comply with new building code wind uplift requirements.

Loadmaster insulation and Duraflex Mineral Board are then placed and screw anchored in IBC required approved load carrying patterns. The roof covering can be attached over the Loadmaster Roof Deck immediately following installation placing the building in the “dry!”

NOTE: Loadmaster in years past owned and operated a Perlite Aggregate manufacturing plant in Irving, Texas. It also owned and operated the second largest LWIC installation firm in Dallas, Texas. Therefore, it can be of assistance in planning LWIC replacement operations.
